No. The app works fully without one. An optional free account adds cloud backup and lets you share lists with friends.
How does the ranking actually work?
Two ways, side by side. Each place's overall score sets its tier and lets you sort by total. And when you add a place, a few quick pairwise duels (“which meal was better?”) slot it into your ranked order, one gut call at a time.
