A private alternative to Letterboxd rankings
Letterboxd is great at being a social film diary. But if what you want is a personal ranking system, one star rating per film and a public feed get in the way. RateTheThings is a local-first movie tracker: your film list lives in your browser, works offline as a PWA, and stays on your device unless you sign in, which turns on the free cloud backup.
The Movies template comes ready with fields for year, director, genre, where to watch, a poster, and notes, and each viewing is logged with its date. Add or remove fields freely, it's your schema. Already keeping ratings elsewhere? Exports from Letterboxd, IMDb, Trakt, and TV Time are recognized and mapped for you, and any other CSV imports with column mapping.

Can I import my Letterboxd ratings?
Yes. Import your Letterboxd export and it is recognized automatically, ratings included. IMDb, Trakt, and TV Time exports work the same way, and any other CSV imports with column mapping.
How is this different from Letterboxd?
Letterboxd is a social film diary with one star rating per film. RateTheThings is private by default, lets you rate story, acting, and visuals alongside each film's overall score, and builds a ranked leaderboard and tier list from the results.
Is the movie tracker free?
Yes. Lists, ratings, ranking, tiers, stats, and Wrapped are all free with no limits, and no account is required.
Where are my film ratings stored?
Locally, in your browser's IndexedDB. Without an account, your ratings never leave your device. Signing in backs up your lists to the cloud automatically; you can turn that off, or encrypt backups so the server cannot read them. Adding a friend shares the names and overall scores of your rated items with them, and a list you publish is readable by anyone with its link. Searching for a film to add sends only the search text, through our server, to TMDB.
