The Books template gives each book one overall score, with story, writing, and characters alongside as optional detail. Prefer the math? Set the overall rating to “Computed from dimensions” and they combine with your own weights.
Fields for real shelves
Author, first published, genre, pages, format, a cover, and notes come built in, and each read is logged with its date. Add a “reread?” field or a “who recommended it” field in two taps.

A private alternative to Goodreads
Goodreads and StoryGraph are built around community: reviews, challenges, what your friends are reading. If what you actually want is a personal record of what you read and how good it really was, RateTheThings is the quiet version. Your book list lives in your browser, works offline as a PWA, and stays on your device unless you sign in, which turns on the free cloud backup.
Moving over is painless: import your Goodreads or StoryGraph export and it is recognized and mapped for you. From there, pairwise duels (“which book was better?”) refine your all-time ranking one gut call at a time, and tier lists give you a clean S-D share card when someone asks for recommendations.

Can I import my Goodreads library?
Yes. Import your Goodreads export and it is recognized automatically: titles, authors, ratings, and dates come straight in. StoryGraph exports work the same way.
How is this different from Goodreads or StoryGraph?
Those are social reading networks with one rating per book. RateTheThings is private by default: it lets you rate story, writing, and characters alongside each book's overall score, refines the order with head-to-head picks, and keeps your ratings on your device.
Is the book tracker free?
Yes. Lists, ratings, ranking, tiers, stats, and Wrapped are all free with no limits, and no account is required.
Where is my reading data stored?
Locally, in your browser's IndexedDB. Without an account, your ratings never leave your device. Signing in backs up your lists to the cloud automatically; you can turn that off, or encrypt backups so the server cannot read them. Adding a friend shares the names and overall scores of your rated items with them, and a list you publish is readable by anyone with its link. Searching for a book to add sends only the search text, through our server, to Open Library.
